A Night With Guillermo Barros Schelotto!

Guillermo Barros Schelotto never played for River Plate, yet he is one of the players I talk about the most. No, it is not because I like his style of play or admire him: it's because he's the player I have hated the most my whole life. Upon hearing that he would come play in Los Angeles vs. Chivas USA with his team (the Columbus Crew), I immediately decided to attend the match. Many think my hate for him is due to his past in Boca, but in reality it goes much farther than that. The cheating, the whining, the protesting... everything. Now, if players like Martin Palermo or Sebastian Battaglia (both are Boca players with an important history at the club) were to play in the MLS, I could care less when they come play in my city. But Guillermo's story was different. I just couldn't miss out.

I took a flag to the stadium (pictured) that stated "Guille amargo. No existis!". Upon the first "Guillermo!" yell I made, he waved, but then looked towards us and saw the River jerseys, read the flag, and heard the insults. His reaction was priceless. Anyway, he ended up laughing a bit, and continued on with the game. After the first half, some Boca fans that were present at the stadium got pretty upset. They threatened us by saying "If you put that flag up one more time we will break your head!", "Who are you calling 'puto'?!", etc. The security guard soon came to straighten things out, so nothing happened.

I appologize about the lack of relation between River and this post, but I just thought I'd share my story. Now what is related to River is the fact that we won 1-0 over Reading FC of England with a great free-kick by Matias Abelairas. Here's the video of the goal:

Haha.. Thanks loes!

The game was played last night (July 14th) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

And yes, I really do hate him.. even more than Victor Zapata! Haha.. But seriously, this guy has cost us (River) Superclasicos by diving and cheating. I also cannot stand his constant protesting. He is the definition of a bitch.

Good job showing MLS fan how is done. To bad Chivas game is always empty but at least is cheaper and you can do whatever you want. Kinda weird that that small rivals la galaxy and Chivas uses the same color. Boca and galaxy blue and yellow and River and Chivas red and white.
Are you going to go to go to cheer for Juan Pablo Angel of New York Red Bulls when he visits LA? He will play 2 games at LA. Chivas USA in September 9. and Galaxy October 18. Or if you want to bother more Boca players you can go to Utah on July 21. Their is a friendly against the worst team in MLS Real Salt Lake against Boca Juniors.

HAHA! This is classic, my friend. Seriously, you should get a medal. I'll be drinking a Quilmes for you tonight.

BTW, how many River fans were out there?

I might stop by for Angel when he comes to LA, but there is no way I'm traveling all the way to Utah to to bother more Boca players. Why? Simple: It will be way too much money (travel, tickets, lodging, etc.) and it's not even my team! Not only that, but there isn't a single player on the Boca squad that I hate 1/10th of the amount that I hate Guillermo Barros Schelotto. By the way, where do you live, "anonymous"?

To Loes: Yeah, this guy IS a complete bitch. He's cost us games. A few examples? In 2004, River were up 2-0 in the first half in the Bombonera playing fantastic football. The match was made to finish up being a historic goleada. Of course this guy had to ruin it: he tripped himself on purpose on Demichelis's (great defender) leg. Demichelis hadn't even tried to foul him! Still, the ref thought he did and expelled our defender. This left Boca with one player more and caused Pellegrini to take Fernando Cavenaghi out of the field and put in Victor Zapata! The match finished 2-2, but would have been a clear win for River, had we been able to play 11 vs. 11.

Another time he cost us a game was in the Clausura 2006 Superclasico. River was winning 1-0 with a great goal by Ernesto Farias and Boca decided to put in Guillermo (he was a sub that day). On the 46th minute of the second half, he dived in the penalty box and the referree believed it! Martin Palermo took the shot and the match ended 1-1. What was even more pathetic was that the bosteros were celebrating the tie, and they even gave Barros Schelotto a trophy after the match.

He's always been a bitch, just one of those players that everyone hates. I have literally never hated someone more.

As for the pictures, I guess you are going to have to view them individually:

He's number 7 by the way.

Overall it was pretty fun. Keep the comments coming!

Cristian: I believe it was just me and another River fan. Other than that, it was obviously mainly Chivas USA fans. There were plenty of Bosteros there. Of course they approached us the Bostero way: in groups of 7 or 8 people. They threatened us by saying "If you put that flag up one more time we will break your head!", "Who are you calling puto?!", etc. No shit: It's easy to act tough when you are in groups that are 4 times bigger! :D

I live in DC we had Matías Donnet last year. He used to play for Boca and helped Boca win the 2003 Intercontinental Cup. He sucked here and made only one crappy goal against a shitty goaly.
Yesterday DC played against Dallas and was winning by 3 goals an later Dallas tied the game. 2 goals from Dallas where by an ex River player Juan Carlos Toja. That's all the rest of ex Boca and River player I know of in the MLS. To bad Chicago Fire could not get Marcelo Salas.

Dario Sala used to play for River, but he didn't get much time in Primera. If I am correct, he is with Dallas now. Besides him, I think Juan Pablo Angel and Juan Carlos Toja are our only ex-players in the MLS.

A friend of mine, who's a bostero in Buenos Aires, once told me that Guille is to River what el Muñeco is to Boca: hatred. I guess they never got over that bite...

The Crew will be in Chicago August 4th, but there's no way in hell I would go to that, even to rip on Schelotto. My dislike for him is nothing compared to the seething hatred I have for Blanco.

You misread I meant Marcelo Salas (el matador) he was almost signed up for MLS. But anyway I read that Guille had an assist though in the game hopefully it wasn't after you took the picture of him when he was taking that free kick.
