LDU - River: The Preview

We will be facing Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (Ecuador) on Thursday, March 15, 2007. We will be playing in "La Casa Blanca" -LDU's home ground-, a really tough place to get away with 3 points.

Los Millonarios will most probably field the following squad:

Juan Pablo Carrizo;
Paulo Ferrari - Danilo Gerlo - Federico Lussenhoff - Cristian Villagra;
Diego Galván/Ahumada - Ponzio - Belluschi - Zapata;
Ernesto Farias - Marco Ruben

Ariel Ortega will once again be concentrating for a River match and will be on the bench!! I hope to see him get some minutes. Joining him as subs will be Galvan/Ahumada (whichever one ends up not starting), Ojeda, Nasuti, Dominguez, Lima, Augusto Fernandez, Sambueza, and Rios.

LDU is a hard team to beat. They are doing well in the local league, and become even more powerful in the Copa Libertadores. In the 2005 edition, they were eliminated by River in the Round of Sixteen, but we had a tough time getting through them: in Quito, we lost 2-1. A player to watch out for on the home side is Franklin Salas. He is a dangerous weapon: fast, nice jukes, nice shots.. He'll be completely dangerous.

The group we are part of, Group 6, currently looks as follows on paper:

1) Caracas FC - 6 Points
2) LDU - 3 Points (+1 Goal Difference)
3) River - 3 Points (0 Goal Difference)
4) Colo Colo - 0 Points

In order be leading the group, we must win on Thursday. Of course a tie isn't a bad result in Quito vs. a tough team like Liga, but River must go out looking for the 3 points, just like we did in Santiago. As for the other match of the group: Caracas will be playing next week, at home, vs. Colo Colo.

This match will be shown live on Fox Sports en Espanol at 3 PM Pacific Time/6 PM Eastern Time.
